To celebrate Valley of the Sun United Way’s 95th anniversary, we’ve donated $95 for every home bought or sold in July, resulting in 39 transactions and a donation of $3,705.
Our contributions will go toward Mighty Change 2026 Impact Area of Housing and Homeless, one of the four pillars in Valley of the Sun United Way’s five-year plan. The plan aims to help Arizonans get through the continual impact of COVID-19, as well as the mighty goal of decreasing homelessness in Maricopa County by 50%.
About the Partnership
Through this partnership, Homie and Valley of the Sun United Way will prioritize communities that are close to experiencing homelessness due to COVID-19, which is still impacting families throughout Maricopa County.
The services and programs to prevent homelessness include:
- Decrease individual and family housing insecurity through targeted investments in rent/utility assistance, housing navigators, and eviction prevention.
- Improve systems with housing and homeless services to reduce barriers to entry for communities of color and other vulnerable communities.
- Partner with regional organizations to develop new metrics that capture county-wide vulnerability of people facing eviction or in need of rent/utility assistance.
In addition to the donation, a team of Homie volunteers will assemble heat relief kits to provide the homeless community during the Valley’s hot summer months. The heat relief kits will include sunscreen, water bottles, hygiene kits, cooling towels, chapstick, hats, and more.
In April 2020, we also donated $100,000 to the Valley of the Sun United Way COVID-19 Response Fund.
